I’ve been following the work of Dr. Loren FIshman, a physiatrist at Columbia University and an Iyengar Yoga teacher and practitioner. He has singlehandedly run a study on the effect of yoga on osteoporosis, an issue dear to my bones, with very encouraging results. I myself have osteoporosis and have been regularly practicing certain Viniyoga poses to increase strength and stability and also to potentially stimulate bone growth. If you suffer from osteoporosis or osteopenia, I urge you to read this New York Times article and then run (carefully!) to your nearest yoga studio!
